DID TRUMP'S THREAT SPARK MEXICO'S BIGGEST FENTANYL BUST EVER
Well, well, well, what do we have here? Just as someone predicted, Trump's tough talk on Mexico seems to have triggered some serious law enforcement action south of the border. After the president-elect had a little chat with Mexico's new president, Claudia Sheinbaum, and demanded they get their act together on illegal crossings, Mexico suddenly pulled off major drug and cartel busts. Coincidence? Sure, if you believe in fairy tales.
Sheinbaum insists these operations were "in the works for a while," but Mexican media isn't buying it. Some are hailing Trump as the catalyst, while others accuse Sheinbaum of cozying up to the cartels.
Omar Garc?a Harfuch, Sheinbaum's Secretary of Security, took to X (formerly Twitter} to trumpet their haul: 1,100 kilograms of fentanyl seized in Sinaloa. "With two milligrams considered a lethal dose, and 22,696.2 lethal doses in a pound, they seized more than 453 million lethal doses." To put it simply, 453 million lethal doses of fentanyl are enough to kill almost every person in both the United States and Mexico combined.
Guns, arrests, and a crackdown on the infamous Sinaloa Cartel were also part of the package. Harfuch promises these operations will continue until Sinaloa's violence subsides.
By Thursday, Harfuch was announcing more arrests, including a cartel figure known as "El Gallero." The operation also nabbed five foreign nationals tied to human trafficking and femicide. Meanwhile, Sheinbaum held a press conference claiming credit for the "long-running" investigation. Right.
But the timing? Suspicious. Mexican pundits are throwing shade, suggesting these moves are less about justice and more about appeasing Trump--or saving face. One reporter dubbed it the "Trump Tsunami," pointing out how Harfuch suddenly became a crime-fighting dynamo post-election.
